Postpartum Chiropractic Care for Mom and Baby
The weeks after birth are full of change—for your body, your baby, and your whole family. Whether you are recovering from a vaginal or cesarean birth, adjusting to feeding and carrying your newborn, or simply feeling the physical demands of around-the-clock care, you deserve support that is gentle, attentive, and centered on you. At RVA Chiropractic & Wellness, we offer personalized postpartum chiropractic care to help you feel more comfortable, mobile, and cared for in this important season.
We also make it easier to care for your growing family by welcoming Mom and baby in the same initial postpartum visit after birth. If your primary focus is your own recovery, we are equally happy to see Mom only. There is no pressure and no one-size-fits-all timeline—just thoughtful care that meets your family where you are.
Postpartum Chiropractic Care
Care for the person who has been caring for everyone else
Postpartum recovery is not limited to a single six-week milestone. Your body has experienced pregnancy, birth, and a rapid transition into new routines—often with interrupted sleep, feeding positions, lifting, carrying, and hours spent looking down at your baby. A postpartum chiropractic visit looks at how your spine, pelvis, joints, and surrounding muscles are moving, then uses gentle, individualized care to address musculoskeletal discomfort and support comfortable movement.
Your visit begins with a conversation about your birth experience, current symptoms, recovery needs, and goals. We will explain what we find, answer your questions, and adapt positioning and techniques to your comfort. Care may include gentle chiropractic adjustments when appropriate, soft-tissue work, and practical support for the movements that fill your days.
Postpartum patients commonly seek care for:
Low-back, pelvic, hip, or sacroiliac discomfort
Neck, shoulder, wrist, and upper-back tension related to feeding, holding, and carrying
Postural strain, muscle tightness, or reduced ease of movement
A desire to reconnect with comfortable movement as their body recovers
A Visit for Mom and Baby
One appointment, centered on your readiness
When you are ready for your newborn to be seen, we can schedule Mom and baby together in one visit. This gives us time to care for your postpartum needs and to complete a gentle, age-appropriate assessment for your baby—all in a calm, supportive setting. If you would prefer to focus on your own recovery first, we can absolutely schedule a Mom-only postpartum visit. Your comfort and your family’s readiness guide the plan. If you’d rather the visit be for your baby only, check out our section on pediatric chiropractic care.
For a shared visit, we encourage you to bring any questions you have noticed during daily life: how your body feels while feeding or carrying, how baby settles, feeding concerns, sleep positioning questions, or anything else you would like to discuss. We will listen carefully and let you know when coordination with your OB, midwife, pediatrician, lactation consultant, pelvic-floor physical therapist, or another provider would be helpful.

What to Expect
For Mom
We will review your pregnancy and birth experience, health history, current recovery, and any activities that may be causing discomfort. After a gentle examination, we will discuss how chiropractic care can help, what care may involve, and how it may fit alongside your existing postpartum plan.
For Baby
We will ask about your baby’s birth and health history, pediatric care, feeding, movement, and any concerns you have noticed. The examination is gentle and age-appropriate. Postpartum chiropractic and newborn chiropractic care complement care from your OB, midwife, pediatrician, lactation consultant, pelvic-floor physical therapist, or other members of your healthcare team. We work collaboratively so you and your baby receive the right support at the right time.
You are not meant to navigate the fourth trimester without support.
Schedule a postpartum visit for Mom—or a shared Mom-and-baby visit when you are ready—and let us care for your family with the attention and compassion you deserve.
FAQs
When can I come in after delivery?
Dr. Lisa normally recommends 2-3 weeks after birth, however the right timing depends on your birth, recovery, health history, and how you are feeling. Contact us to discuss your situation if you aren’t sure.
Can my baby come to my postpartum visit?
Yes. When you are ready, we can schedule a shared Mom-and-baby visit. If you would rather begin with care for Mom only, that is completely welcome too.
What is a newborn adjustment like?
Newborn care uses low-force, age-appropriate techniques that are very different from adult chiropractic adjustments. We explain what we are doing, move at your baby’s pace, and obtain your consent throughout the visit.
What happens after our postpartum appointment?
Dr. Lisa will create a care plan for both Mom and baby going forward. She will discuss her recommendations for follow-up care and share any referrals to other providers, if necessary.
